I can’t help but talk about Top Chef! This will not be a re-cap (I’ll save that for the bloggers over at the official Bravo/Top Chef website) but mostly just my opinion of the contestants and their dishes.
This season looks like it has the potential to be the best season yet! It seems to be “bigger” and “better” than the past seasons. I think we can expect big and bold dishes as well as over the top personalities. I look forward to the twists and turns of the new season! All of the contestants seem to be very high caliber chefs – there are no culinary school students or home cooks this season – although I applaud those past contestants who didn’t come from a formal culinary background, for they gave us common folk hope!
There seem to be so many contestants I think it’s going to be hard to keep track at first, and it’s certainly hard to get a feel for who is weak, although I already dislike Mike Isabella just for being a jerk, “A girl shouldn’t be at the same level that I am”. Really? Is that what you’re going with? BTW, that “girl” won the quick fire challenge (and consequently was the winner in her group for the elimination challenge). Having won the elimination challenge in his group as well (and I have to admit that his poached halibut with eggplant puree sounded delicious), he seems to have the skills to back up his bravado, but the other contestants have some serious skills too. I hope someone takes him down a notch, and I hope that someone is a “girl”. (more…)
